An RĂomhaire

Francie Kenny Interview Report

Last Friday our caretaker Francie came in and told us about school in the olden days. This is his story....

                                                      Childhood
Francie was born in 1967 in Ennis. He was born in the back room of his home. He had four brothers and four sisters. In 1971 Francie started school in the old one. He moved to the new school in 1973 when he was six.

                                                       Sports
Francie liked to play marbles and conkers. Once when he was playing with his friends he accidently made a little crack in the window with the marble. He was very worried for a while because he was afraid his friend would rat him out, but luckily he didn't. When Francie was in school there used to be a lot of fields there and there often was horse shows there too. They had sports days which were run by Mr Stack. bernard O'Brien was a great athlete he used to run very fast in races and was very hard to beat. Neil Ryan was also very fast he even made it to the Olympics.

                                                       Teachers
Francie's favourite teacher was Miss McGovern who made sure your handwriting was perfect, but she was very kind! Francie's fourth class teacher was Mr Mcdermot who loved to do art and was also very kind. Francie also liked Mr Pyne who made up stories and was very funny. Mr Pyne is my uncle.

                                                     Food/Clothes
Back then you could wear anything you liked. There used to be a canteen there also. You were allowed to bring crisps.

I would like to see what the old school was like because you didn't have to wear a uniform and there was a canteen!
